On 3 September 2018, the Department of Agriculture (DAFF) announced it would issue infringement notices under the Biosecurity Act for 55 strict liability offences, including those related to airports, seaports, cargo, and ballast water. Penalties for non-compliance can be significant, with fines based on penalty units, and failure to pay may lead to prosecution or court-ordered civil penalties.

EU imposes countervailing duties on imports of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) from China

The EU has imposed five-year countervailing duties on Chinese battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to address unfair subsidies that threaten EU producers, with rates ranging from 7.8% to 35.3%, depending on the exporter. The Commission remains open to negotiating price undertakings and allows importers to seek refunds if subsidies can be disproven.
