"Dangerous Goods" and "Hazmat" (Hazardous Materials) are terms used interchangeably, but with subtle differences. "Dangerous Goods" is an internationally accepted term rooted in UN regulations, categorizing substances posing risks during transportation and guiding their handling. Conversely, "Hazmat" is more colloquial and prevalent in the USA and sometimes Canada. It pertains to hazardous materials regulated domestically, primarily by agencies like the U.S. DOT and PHMSA. Both terms denote substances with potential dangers, with "Dangerous Goods" being globally recognized, and "Hazmat" having a regional focus, particularly in North America.
